UN condemns Israel's latest evacuation order in Khan Yunis, southern Gaza

Jul 23. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The United Nations Human Rights Office in the occupied Palestinian territories has condemned the latest evacuation order issued on Monday by the Israeli army in several neighborhoods of Khan Younis, in the south of the Gaza Strip, amid constant bombardment against the enclave.

“The evacuation order was issued in the context of the Israeli army’s ongoing attacks (on Gaza) and did not give civilians time to know which areas they should leave or where they should go,” it said in a statement on Tuesday.

The order also covered parts of the Saladin Highway, “one of the two main routes for transporting and distributing aid,” and there are fears that this could affect the delivery of humanitarian supplies.

“Many of those displaced as a result of the latest order have been displaced countless times. Many have been forced to leave in the direction of the Al Mauasi area in Khan Younis, which has little to no infrastructure for displaced civilians and where there is little access to shelter or basic services,” he added.

The Israeli army ordered the population to evacuate the eastern districts of Khan Yunis to Al Mauasi, declared by Israel as a “humanitarian zone”, alleging that the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) has carried out “numerous terrorist acts” from this area of the enclave.

Authorities in the Gaza Strip, controlled by the Islamist militia, have raised the death toll to nearly 90 on Tuesday as a result of the new offensive unleashed on Monday by Israel, which has reported that the 98th Division has “eliminated several terrorists in clashes with terrorist squads.”
