The unions CSIF, CCOO, CIG and ELA announced this Tuesday mobilisations in Social Security throughout the national territory, probably “starting in September”, according to sources familiar with the matter confirmed to Europa Press.
These unions claim that the protests are “unwanted measures” but point out that Social Security “needs reorganisation to become the public service that citizens deserve.”
The announcement comes after the Secretary of State for Social Security, Borja Suárez, who had been delegated by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, Cristina Navarro Enterría, did not attend a meeting of the Delegate Board of Social Security last week.
In addition, the unions point out that there has been no “dialogue or negotiation” since Suárez signed an agreement in May 2023 that set out the initial conditions for the implementation of a strategic human resources plan in the Social Security Administration.
“More than a year after the signing of the aforementioned agreement, we are back to square one,” the unions explain in their statement. “During all this time, the Secretary of State has been delaying the representation of the staff,” they add.
In this way, the unions seek to remove Suárez from his “inactivity” with the aim of “reorganizing and strengthening” Social Security.
The planned Social Security mobilisations are in addition to those announced last week by the general secretary of CCOO, Unai Sordo, in response to the stagnation in negotiations to reduce the working day to 37.5 hours in 2025.
Both Sordo and the Social Security faction of CCOO have announced mobilizations for September, but they will be “different and distinct,” according to a representative of the union.
