The Palestinian Authority’s Health Ministry reported early Tuesday morning that a Palestinian man died after succumbing to wounds caused by Israeli gunfire during an operation in the village of Sair, northeast of the West Bank city of Hebron.
“The man Jihad Muhamad Hussein Shalalde, 39 years old, has been martyred by gunfire from the occupation forces in the village of Sair,” reads a statement from the Ministry of Health published on its Facebook account.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF), which has not yet commented on the incident, stormed the village at dawn using live ammunition and tear gas, and made numerous arrests, the Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.
Israeli army operations in the West Bank have intensified following the attacks carried out on October 7 by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and other Palestinian militias, which left around 1,200 dead and nearly 240 kidnapped, according to Israeli authorities. Since then, more than 560 Palestinians have died in the region, also due to attacks by Israeli settlers, adding to the more than 37,900 deaths in the Gaza Strip due to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) offensive.
