Three dead, six injured in shooting at West Philadelphia rally

Three men were killed and at least six others wounded in an early morning shooting at a gathering in West Philadelphia, authorities said.

Police said more than 100 people were in the Carroll Park neighborhood when gunfire erupted about 2 a.m. Sunday. They said preliminary information points to “an exchange of fire between multiple groups” and shell casings of various calibers.

A 33-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene and two other men, ages 23 and 29, were later pronounced dead at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, police said in a statement. Their names have not been released. A 26-year-old woman and five men ranging in age from 27 to 30 were in stable condition, police said.

Detective Inspector DF Pace told reporters at the scene that at least 25 to 30 bullet casings were found. He said the man pronounced dead at the scene had been shot at close range and was apparently a target.

Pace said it was not clear whether it was a street party or whether those present had simply been invited to the venue.

Police said at least one gun had been recovered. Authorities are searching for video from security cameras. No arrests have been reported.
