Russian authorities confirm 40 drowning deaths in the country's reservoirs on Saturday

More than 800 people drowned in June during high temperatures

Jul 21. () –

At least 40 people have drowned in Russia’s reservoirs in the past 24 hours, the Ministry of Emergency Situations announced on Sunday, reiterating its recommendations against negligent bathing, which has left 812 people dead in June.

The Ministry of Emergencies recalls that the 40 deaths in the last few hours are almost double the number of the same day last year and that among the deceased are two children.

The ministry also noted that a total of 215 children have died in such incidents across the country since the beginning of summer, according to estimates compiled by the TASS agency.

Russian authorities, on their Telegram account, strongly recommend citizens to choose places prepared for swimming or bathing, not to leave children alone in bodies of water, not to swim after drinking alcohol — a third of those who died in June were intoxicated — and to wear life jackets while on a boat.
