NATO appoints Briton Patrick Turner as its chief representative in Ukraine

Jul 17. () –

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced on Wednesday the appointment of British national Patrick Turner as the Alliance’s new Chief Representative in Ukraine, after having held important positions in the organisation as well as in civil society institutions in the United Kingdom.

“Patrick Turner brings years of leadership and experience to the role. As a committed public servant, he has a strong track record of delivering results. I am confident that he will excel in this important role as NATO continues to increase its support for Ukraine,” Stoltenberg said.

Turner, who previously served as NATO’s Assistant Secretary General for Operations and Defence Policy and Planning, described his appointment as a “true honour” and hopes to be able to respond by working in “close collaboration” with the Ukrainian authorities and the rest of the allies.

He will take up the post in September of this year and will be responsible, among other things, for serving as a liaison between NATO and the authorities in kyiv and leading the so-called National Emergency Response Unit.

Turner’s appointment was one of several decisions taken at the NATO summit held in Washington a few days ago, along with the creation of a new mechanism to coordinate the delivery of military aid — including training and coaching — and another package of 40 billion euros for next year.
