Baldur’s Gate III details what’s new in the next patch, including mod support and dynamic split-screen

We know that Larian Studios will release a new patch for Baldur’s Gate III in September that will add official support for modsbut this will not be the only novelty. Today the development team has revealed the rest of features and content, including dynamic split-screen, new cinematics for evil endings, and improvements to Honor Mode.

With the September patch, Baldur’s Gate 3 players playing in split-screen mode will no longer be eternally confined to their side of the screen, “because the power of friendship transcends all obstacles, including split-screens.” When playing in co-op mode, it will be possible to merge split-screen as long as the characters are close enough for this to be possible. The option will be available directly from the user interface both in and out of combat.

Narratively, the patch will add new cinematics that will offer “a grand finale” to the “most evil” runs for both source and player-customized characters. Dialogue and romance will also be added, while improvements and bug fixes will be made to some characters. For example, Astarion will have improved facial animations during kissing cinematics. Meanwhile, Honor Mode improvements include more creatures with Legendary Actions, while Dror Ragzlin will gain a new ability called Arachnid Compulsion to gather nearby spiders and launch them at the player.

Details about support for mods were already known. Larian Studios will put into the hands of players an official toolkit that will offer access to mods and the option to create them. Currently the development team is working with authors of mods in a closed alpha so that on launch day everything goes according to plan. Larian Studios tools will allow you to edit or create completely new content, including cosmetics, classes and subclasses, races, dice skins, user interface, quality of life improvements, and items (weapons, armor, consumables…).
