The Ibex 35 struggles to maintain the 11,200 points in the mid-session

The Ibex 35 was torn between maintaining or losing the 11,200-point mark in the mid-session on Monday, registering a fall of 0.45% and with more than half of its values ​​in the red.

The main focus this week will be the European Central Bank (ECB) meeting, which will be held next Thursday and at which no major decision on monetary policy is expected, although there may be clues about future moves.

Among today’s benchmarks, China’s GDP stands out, which registered a 0.7% expansion between April and June, a growth rate substantially lower than the 1.6% observed in the first three months of 2024. Compared to the second quarter of last year, the world’s second-largest economy experienced growth of 4.7%, slowing six-tenths compared to the 5.3% expansion of the first quarter.

Investors will also be keeping an eye on the opening of the US markets today, following the attempted assassination of the Republican presidential candidate, Donald Trump, this weekend.

In this context, the Ibex 35 stood at 11,200 points, with notable increases in Rovi (+1.33%), ArcelorMittal (+1.25%), Aena (+0.88%) and Meliá (+0.52%). On the other hand, the biggest declines were in Grifols (-4.84%), Acciona Energía (-2.42%), Solaria (-1.62%), Repsol (-1.30%), Acciona (-1.14%) and Cellnex (-1.11%).

The main European stock markets also fell in the mid-session on Monday: Paris lost 0.30%, Milan lost 0.17%, London 0.16% and Frankfurt 0.11%.

On the commodities market, the barrel of Brent crude oil – the benchmark in the Old Continent – rose by 0.11% to reach a price of 85.12 dollars, the same rise as that of West Texas, which reached a price of 82.30 dollars.

On the other hand, in the euro-dollar exchange rate, the euro appreciated slightly, by 0.05%, to 1.0913 dollars, while the yield on the Spanish ten-year bond fell to 3.242% and the risk premium stood at 79.1 points.
