INAI to investigate Ticketmaster data leak

Last week, the company dedicated to selling tickets for concerts and other events, sent emails to users in North America who may have been affected by the data breach.

Since the evening of Wednesday, July 10, the company has sent emails to customers in Canada, the United States and Mexico urging them to be vigilant and protect themselves against identity theft and fraud.

“Private companies or legal entities or individuals that process personal data are required to comply with the principles, duties and obligations set forth in the law,” according to the Federal Law on the Protection of Personal Data Held by Private Parties, cited by the INAI.

The INAI indicated that its officials will be attentive to complaints that affected persons may make in order to initiate the corresponding procedures.

According to Ticketmaster, the data obtained by hackers included personal information such as name and contact information, as well as details about payment methods, such as card numbers (debit and credit) and expiration dates.

The company has therefore asked affected users to be alert to any unusual activity on their bank cards.

In addition to the INAI, the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) has already asked the company to submit a report on the scope of the leak, and has made itself available to those affected in case they need any kind of support.
