Death toll from Israel's attacks on the Gaza Strip rises to nearly 38,600

14 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The death toll from Israeli army attacks on the Gaza Strip has now risen to nearly 38,600, while the number of wounded has now exceeded 88,880, a day after the deadly attack on a displaced persons camp in Al Mawasi, near Khan Yunis, where 90 people were killed.

The Gaza Strip’s Ministry of Health reported on Sunday that 38,584 people have already died as a result of Israeli attacks, while another 88,881 have been injured.

In the past 24 hours, 141 more people have died and 400 more have been injured, although the figures could be even higher as a large number of people are still missing under the rubble or in places that rescue services cannot access due to Israeli restrictions.

Following the latest attack on Al Mawasi, Nasser Hospital, the last medical centre still operational in the southern Gaza Strip, has begun receiving a large number of the 300 wounded it caused, said the NGO Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF).

Amy Kit Mei Low, medical manager for MSF’s maternity and paediatric ward at Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis, said staff had been “overwhelmed” and “worried” by the large number of injured people arriving, as they are not generally used to treating trauma.

The medical officer regretted that the lack of supplies was making things even more complicated. “There were people in the corridors moaning in pain (…) it was quite chaotic and horrible what was happening in the hospital (…) we are overwhelmed,” she said.
