( Spanish) — The Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection of Mexico announced through a press release that this Sunday the water levels increased in wells two, three and four of the El Pinabete mine, in Coahuila, where 10 miners have been trapped since the 3rd of August, reaching up to 10.44 meters.
A group of specialists from the Mexican Geological Service of the Ministry of Economy and the Mimosa company designs a strategy to prevent water levels from continuing to rise and continue with the rescue efforts, according to the statement.
The National Coordinator of Civil Protection of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, Laura Velázquez, added that they will not abandon the miners or their families. She emphasized that Mexico’s Civil Protection system is one of the most experienced in the world since the country is one of the most vulnerable to natural phenomena.
According to Velázquez, the El Pinabete mine faces extraordinary conditions due to its adjoining to the south with the Conchas Norte mine, which was abandoned approximately 30 years ago.
