Those who have a penchant for games that build factories of generous dimensions to extract resources can already start clearing their schedules for after the summer. A few hours ago we learned that Satisfactory will leave early access on September 10 with update 1.0, and now it’s the turn of Factorio, whose Space Age expansion already has a release date, retail price and details about its content. It will be available on October 21 for 35 euros, the same price as the base game.

Space Age has been in development for over three years and will pick up where Factorio left off, with the launch of a rocket that ends the original campaign. However, with the expansion there are multiple launches and each one travels to a new world with its own characteristics, resources, challenges and gameplay mechanics. The expansion was originally intended to add four planets, but in the end there will be five. According to developer Wube Software the expansion is of a similar size to the base game, hence its price tag.

Among the new locations added to Space Age are Vulcanus, which contains mountains of fire and unbreakable, durable material, lava pits and advanced metallurgical technologies; Fulgora, a desolate world with electrical storms whose power can be harnessed and remnants of advanced technology that can be recycled; and Gleba, which features a fog-shrouded swampy landscape that contains toxic plants and new possibilities in the field of biochemical engineering. All we know about the fifth planet is that it is the world furthest from the sun, it is cold, dark and promises unique gameplay.

Space Age also adds two other major new features: Special Platforms and Elevated Rails. Special Platforms are flying factories that act as a means of transport between planets and can be armed to defend against asteroids or catch them for processing. Elevated Rails, meanwhile, add a new challenge and possibilities to the railway network, which can grow and overcome obstacles with ramps and supports to raise the railway tracks. The expansion will also introduce quality to objects, machines and equipment.

On the same day Space Age becomes available, all Factorio players will have access to the 2.0 update with improvements and changes.
