Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday rejected a truce with Ukraine, arguing that “irreversible and acceptable” agreements must first be reached for Moscow, but he said that Russia welcomes any attempt at mediation, recalling the role of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during the Istanbul negotiations. On global security, the president said he would wait for the result of the presidential elections in November in the United States to discuss the issue with Washington, adding that he believes that US presidential candidate Donald Trump is sincere about his desire to end the war in Ukraine if he is elected. On the front, meanwhile, the Russian offensive continues and Ukrainian troops have had to retreat in Donetsk.
