Online sales grew 53.3% in the second quarter

The Colombian Chamber of Electronic Commerce (Ccce) presented a report on the behavior of online purchases in the second quarter of 2022.
According to the Chamber “a positive development is reflected” with respect to the number of sales, digital payments, most demanded categories and the impact of inflation in this economic sector.

Thus, between April and June, the total of online sales reached approximately $13.5 billion, which translated into 53.3% more than in the same period last year. “Growth that was supported by the development of days such as the second Day without VAT, carried out in June”, highlighted the report.

Likewise, the Ccce specified that it should be taken into consideration that, “In the same period last year, there were days of protests in the framework of the national strike, which negatively affected household consumption”.

Another of the most relevant findings showed that the value of online sales “was growing progressively, registering $4 billion in April, $4.4 billion in May and finally $5.2 billion in June.” In addition, the report noted that the number of online sales transactions increased by 26.6% compared to the second quarter of 2021 with a total of 82.7 million transactions.

As in the first quarter of 2022, the categories that stood out the most, according to the report, in the second quarter were: other services (professionals in architecture, legal engineering, accounting, among others), financial services and technology, which ended June with a participation of 19.7%, 16.6% and 12.3%, respectively.
