Venezuela’s government denounced on Thursday that members of the opposition Refugees at the Argentine embassy in Caracas They are coordinating violent plans against the presidential elections of July 28 and maintained that the Foreign Ministry should summon the diplomatic representatives of that country.
“The diplomatic representatives of the Argentine embassy have to be summoned by the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry. “Here we must respect the laws and we must respect the precepts established in international diplomatic relations,” Jorge Rodríguez, head of President Nicolás Maduro’s campaign command, said this Thursday.
Since March, six close collaborators of opposition leader María Corina Machado, who are subject to arrest warrants for allegedly being involved in destabilizing plans, have been sheltering in the Argentine embassy in Caracas.
Rodríguez, also president of Parliament and head of the government delegation in negotiations with the opposition, said that, if “criminal acts are being planned” from an embassy, international principles are violated.
“We warn the Argentine embassy in Venezuela about whether it will respect the principles established for the right of asylum and non-interference in the country’s political affairs,” he said.
According to Rodriguez, there is evidence that groups of motorcyclists will go to the polling stations to demand that the victory of one of the candidates be recognized.
“Mrs. Magalli Meda, who has the electronic resources to direct these centurions, legionaries, motorized vehicles who are going to go to the voting centers, who are going to ask for acts of violence to be generated,” he continued, referring to the campaign manager. of Machado, one of the refugees in the Argentine legation.
On several occasions, Venezuelan government officials have accused the opposition of trying to establish a matrix of electoral fraud and have warned that they will not allow violent acts.
“Don’t worry, we will dismantle those plans and we will surgically and precisely dismantle them,” Rodríguez insisted.
The opposition led by Machado, winner of the presidential primary, but disqualified from holding public office, who supports the presidential candidate, Edmundo González, favorite in the polls, has insisted that it will remain on the electoral route to achieve a transition in the country.
The government of Javier Milei has said that it is holding talks to process safe passage so that the six opponents sheltered in the Argentine embassy can travel to that country. But last month, the first vice president of Venezuela’s ruling party, Diosdado Cabello, said the government will not grant safe conduct.
“Today I believe that the response of the Venezuelan government came out, denied. There are no safe passages for those who do not love this country,” the parliamentarian stated at the time.
Meda, Machado’s campaign manager; Pedro Urruchurtu, international coordinator of the Vente Venezuela party, Claudia Macero; communications coordinator; former parliamentarian Omar González; the electoral coordinator of the campaign command, Humberto Villalobos, and the former minister and advisor, Fernando Martínez Mottola, are the six people sheltered in the diplomatic headquarters.
