At least four civilians have been hacked to death in an attack carried out by alleged members of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), which maintain ties with the jihadist group Islamic State, in the province of Ituri, located in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. (DRC).

Civil society in the territory of Itumu has indicated that the attack has been carried out against the town of Mambelenga and has added that the attackers have set fire to several homes, as reported by the Congolese news portal Actualité. Likewise, there are two missing.

Shortly before this attack, suspected members of the ADF, who have increased their raids in Ituri and adjacent North Kivu, had kidnapped eight farmers in the nearby town of Manzebi Makumbo, without the authorities making a statement. regard.

The ADF was created in the 1990s in Uganda and is especially active in eastern DRC, where it has been accused of killing hundreds of civilians. The group suffered a split in 2019 after its leader, Musa Baluku – sanctioned by the United Nations and the United States – swore allegiance to the Islamic State in Central Africa (ISCA), under whose banner it has operated since then.
