A consortium of journalists accuses Israel of using drones to attack reporters and using AI to “generate targets”
June 25 (EUROPA PRESS) –
An investigation carried out by the AFP news agency and other international media published this Thursday attributes the attack carried out on November 2, 2023 against the office of this French media in the Gaza Strip to an Israeli Army battle tank. which ended without victims because the place had been evacuated.
The investigation has been carried out by a media consortium led by ‘Forbidden Stories’ and includes the investigation of the recording of a camera installed on the terrace of the office, which suffered serious material damage, as well as the images of the consequences of the attack and satellite images.
The attack, carried out less than a month after the start of Israel’s military offensive against Gaza following the attacks carried out on October 7 by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), was carried out with a tank projectile, weapons that only Israel possesses in the context of the conflict in the Palestinian enclave.
The Israeli Army then stated that the building, located in the Rimal neighborhood of Gaza City, had not been attacked “in any way”, although it later stated that the event was being investigated, without having published to date the result of their investigations.
The AFP team had evacuated the site on October 13 following Israel’s request for all civilians to leave the city, although the camera installed on the tenth floor balcony continued recording, even broadcasting live the aforementioned attack, perpetrated around noon on October 2. A second camera installed one floor below continued recording after the event.
‘Forbidden Stories’ also stated during the day that the Israeli Army is using drones to carry out attacks against journalists and using “multiple artificial intelligence systems to generate targets”, including ‘Lavender’, “used to create a list of murders with more than 37,000 people”.
In this sense, he has stressed that at least 18 media workers have been killed or injured in precision attacks carried out by drones, Khalil Dewan, lawyer and researcher of war drones, has indicated that the Israeli Army “attacks targets with a great degree of knowledge about who he kills.
“In drone warfare, mobile phones, SIM cards, the use of certain social measurement applications with location activated and live broadcast exposes a person to target mapping,” he explained, while saying that “drones operate in an ecosystem of signals intelligence and communications infrastructure.”
Around 50 journalists from thirteen different media organizations around the world are working on this Gaza project, which also covers Israel’s operations in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. “It’s our way of breathing new life into stories that cost them their lives and freedom. Killing journalists will not end the story,” ‘Forbidden Stories’ concluded.
The Israeli Army launched its offensive against the Strip after the aforementioned attacks carried out on October 7, which left some 1,200 dead and nearly 240 kidnapped. Since then, the Gaza authorities, controlled by the Islamist group, have reported more than 37,600 deaths, to which are added more than 520 Palestinians killed in the West Bank and East Jerusalem at the hands of Israeli forces or in attacks by settlers.
