The PP asks to measure the impact of environmental laws in the countryside before being approved

June 23. () –

This week, the PP will bring to a vote in the plenary session of Congress an initiative with which they ask to apply a “rural guarantee mechanism” with which the impact that environmental laws may have on rural areas is evaluated before their approval.

This mechanism, which is known as ‘rural proofing’, the Popular Group wants to develop in dialogue with the primary sector and raises it in a motion resulting from an urgent question that it addressed in last week’s plenary session to the third vice president and minister for Ecological Transition, Teresa Ribera.

In its motion, which will be voted on this week and which Europa Press has accessed, the PP also wants to have sufficient financial resources to develop infrastructure linked to the agricultural and food world, such as the use of resources from European funds.

Likewise, the ‘popular’ propose promoting the role of agriculture “as one of the main allies” in the fight against climate change, since they consider that the Government of Pedro Sánchez sees the sector as an “enemy” when the countryside has the capacity to absorb carbon from the atmosphere and mitigate the effects of the climate crisis.

The PP initiative also includes a point to provide the agri-food sector with new and more effective instruments that reinforce its essential strategic nature, as well as reinforce the future of agricultural production and the food industry, as a way of guaranteeing food security. , the supply to the markets and the population’s access to “sufficient, guaranteed and quality” food.

THEY ASK FOR A NATIONAL WATER PACT

Finally, the Popular Group urges the Government to initiate actions to develop a National Water Pact “from dialogue and consensus, with the participation of all the autonomous communities and affected sectors, and with the aim of providing solutions throughout Spain.” .

The idea of the PP is that these actions include investments in infrastructure that guarantee the availability of water to deal with droughts, high temperatures and flood control, as well as modernize irrigation.
