Cuba joins the case at the ICJ against Israel due to the risk of genocide in Gaza

The Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced this Friday that it will intervene in the case opened in the International Court of Justice following South Africa’s lawsuit against Israel for risk of genocide of the Palestinian population in the framework of its attacks against the Gaza Strip.

“In correspondence with the firm and sustained commitment to support and contribute as much as possible to legitimate international efforts to put an end to the genocide being committed against the Palestinian people, the Government of Cuba has decided to intervene in the procedure,” stated the Cuban diplomacy in a statement.

“Cuba will use its right to present, as a Third State, its interpretation of the norms of the Convention that Israel has flagrantly violated with its actions in the illegally occupied Palestinian territory of the Gaza Strip,” stated the Cuban Government, which insists that the South African lawsuit is aimed at “stopping atrocities against the Palestinian people.”

Thus, from Havana they have accused the Israeli authorities of acting “with total impunity” thanks to the protection and “complicity” of the United States Administration, while “ignoring their obligations as the Occupying Power under the “Fourth Geneva Convention”.

“Genocide, apartheid, forced displacement and collective punishments cannot have a place in today’s world, nor can they be tolerated by the international community. Justice and respect for the United Nations Charter and International Law must prevail. “, Cuban diplomacy has stressed.
