The German authorities have arrested this week an Armenian, a Russian and a Ukrainian for their alleged involvement in espionage activities for a foreign Intelligence service, the Prosecutor’s Office has reported, explaining that the suspects were monitoring the movements of a citizen with Ukrainian nationality.
The Prosecutor’s Office, which has not indicated the country that would be behind the espionage, has explained that the three detainees – a Ukrainian identified as Robert A., an Armenian named Vardges I. and a third Russian citizen, Arman S. – have already They appeared before the judge on Thursday.
They are accused of traveling to Germany to gather information about a person with Ukrainian nationality about whom no details have been given. On Wednesday, they approached a cafeteria in Frankfurt where they hoped to find their target, the Public Ministry reports in its statement.
German authorities have dismantled numerous espionage plots and have directly pointed to Moscow as responsible since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
