Kuwait implements power cuts due to increased demand due to high temperatures

June 20 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Kuwaiti authorities have announced this Thursday a series of cuts to the electrical system in several areas of the country during peak consumption hours due to the increase in demand caused by a heat wave that affects the country and that could take thermometers above of 50 degrees Celsius during the next few days.

The Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy has announced in a statement published through its website that the cuts will affect six provinces starting this Thursday between 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. (local time) and has detailed that they will be active “between one and two hours, if necessary.”

Likewise, he has attributed these outages to “the inability of power plants to address the requirements of increased demand during peak hours” and “temperatures are higher, compared to this same time in previous years.” .

In this sense, he has argued that the decision seeks to “protect the stability of the electrical system” and has called on the population to “ration electricity consumption during peak hours (…) to reduce electrical loads and avoid having to adopt this type of measures again” in the future.
