Boom Supersonic dreams of building the successor to the Concorde. And it has inaugurated the Overture Superfactory to achieve it

Boom Supersonic has been dreaming of a passenger plane capable of completing flights for a decade in a fraction of the time required by today’s commercial aircraft. Imagine flying from Atlanta to Madrid in just over four and a half hours. Nowadays, in the best of cases, this route is usually completed in about eight hours.

We are talking about a huge leap for commercial air transport that we have not seen since the days of the legendary Concorde. The American company wants to materialize this with its Overture supersonic plane which, in addition to being very fast, promises to come with a wide range of comforts for passengers.

Boom Supersonic already has a factory

How ambitious the project is may lead many people to wonder if it will finally become a reality. Build a plane It is a titanic task. If we add to that the fact that it has to be supersonic, the challenges grow substantially. Rolls-Royce, for example, decided to step aside about two years ago.

Boom Supersonic, despite the challenges that have appeared along the way, remains confident that it will achieve what it seeks. An important proof of this is that it has recently inaugurated what it calls “the first supersonic aircraft factory in the United States.” If we do not take into account the combat aircraft produced in the territory, of course.

The building of the Overture Superfactory It was inaugurated on June 17. It is a modern assembly line located in the Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro, North Carolina, where Boom intends to build the Overture. As we can see, the company now has a huge factory at its disposal.

The architecture firm BRPH was responsible for the design and BE&K was responsible for the construction. Right now, however, the factory is an empty hangar missing all the items needed to build Boom Supersonic’s planes, including employees. The project is expected to generate about 2,400 local jobs.

Boom Supersonic says it has partnered with a tooling supplier called Advanced Integration Technology (AIT) to begin equipping its factory. The first step will be to install a advanced testing cell unit to develop manufacturing processes, optimize assembly line flow and prepare personnel for aircraft production.

Europe has been relying on Antonov for strategic transportation for years: now it is looking for an alternative with Airbus

Let us remember that the American firm has also taken other important steps in recent years. In mid-2022 it announced a radical redesign of its Overture aircraft and recently completed the maiden flight of its XB-1 supersonic demonstration aircraft. If everything goes according to plan, it is likely that in the future we will end up traveling on supersonic planes, some from United Airlines.
