June 18 (EUROPA PRESS) –

At least nine people have died this Tuesday due to a fire in a hospital in the Iranian city of Rasht, capital of the province of Gilan (north), without at the moment there is information on the causes of the event.

The fire affected the Qaem Hospital, where 142 patients were admitted at the time the flames broke out, as specified by the regional governor, Asadollah Abbasi, according to the Iranian news agency Tasnim.

“As soon as the incident took place, all rescue teams, firefighters and Iranian Red Crescent teams arrived at the scene and helped extinguish the flames,” said Abbasi, who went to the scene of the incident to address the situation.

The rescue teams have evacuated about 120 patients from the hospital, sent to other medical centers in the province, while the Firefighters have stated that the flames originated in the basement of the building.

In November 2023, another fire occurred in a detoxification center in the city of Langarud, also in this province, in which 32 people died. Likewise, nearly 20 people died in another fire at a clinic north of the capital, Tehran, in June 2020.
