“Islamic State cells have carried out three operations in the last 24 hours that have resulted in the death of five members and an injured leader of the Hayin Military Council, part of the Syrian Democratic Forces,” the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported. , an organization based in London but with informants inside Syria.

Hours earlier, another SDF fighter was killed in an attack by Islamic State militants near the town of Dhiban, also in the province of Deir Ezzor.

Islamic State took over much of eastern Syria and western and northern Iraq in 2014 to declare the Caliphate. An international coalition intervened to stop their advance and the Kurdish-Syrian FDS were the main shock forces to combat the jihadists in Syrian territory.
