French left parties seal an agreement for the formation of “a new Popular Front”

The main parties of the political left in France have finally reached an agreement to form an alliance in order to confront the rise of the extreme right and also unseat Macronism in the next legislative elections, scheduled for June 30 and July 7th.

The agreement contemplates the presentation of “common candidates capable of representing French society” and in it the parties undertake to work on a political program with “concrete and realistic proposals” so that, in the first hundred days of a possible mandate, ” the lives of French people really change.

Thus, the groups have stressed that from this moment on they will work to “expand” this agreement with “all those French people, associations, unions, political parties and personalities engaged in public debate” and who share the ideas and general orientations of the block.

“From now on, the return of the National Rally to power is no longer inevitable! Get up and join the new Popular Front! Hope is there!” the statement concludes.

One of the first reactions has been that of the leader of La Francia Insumisa, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, who has published a statement from his party in which he emphasizes that this agreement “is a considerable political event in France” and also in the European Union, which faces “threats from the extreme right.”

“In a few hours, great popular fervor was manifested to encourage negotiating efforts. This confirms an essential factor for the future and for the elections themselves: popular participation is the key to the future,” added Mélenchon, who says he is “writing a great and beautiful page in the political history” of the country.

For his part, the national secretary of the Communist Party, Fabien Roussel, has highlighted that the progressive formations have put “all the possibilities on their side” to achieve this agreement. He has also promised that they will bring salaries and pensions in line with inflation and implement an income for students.
