NASA reported that through an innovative laser relay system technological project, Photographs and videos of animals traveled to the International Space Station at a speed of 1.2 gigabytes per second.

According to the agency, This speed corresponds to a speed greater than that of most homes with an internet connection.but it also demonstrates the efficiency of lasers and new network technology.
This test involved at least 500 images of different animals that were transmitted back and forth from Earth to the Station.passing through a computer located at a mission operations center in Las Cruces, New Mexico, to optical ground stations in California and Hawaii where they converted the data into infrared light signals.

Also, astronauts Randy Bresnik, Christina Koch and Kjell Lindgren, along with other agency employeesparticipated in the test, demonstrating “the power” of laser communications.
“Laser communications use infrared light instead of radio waves to send and receive information”says NASA.
It should be noted that since the beginning of space exploration, This entity’s missions have used radio frequency to send data to and from space. However, this new technique can transfer more data on a single link than radio communications.
