At least two police officers were injured on Wednesday in an attack with explosives in the urban area of Jamundí, southwestern Colombia, and material damage was reported in the middle of two attacks with shots fired in the same region, local authorities reported.
A motorcycle loaded with explosives detonated in the central area of Jamundí, part of the metropolitan area of the city of Cali, leaving two police officers injured, the Jamundí mayor’s office said on its X account, formerly Twitter.
In parallel, shots and harassment were reported against the Potrerito police substation, in the rural area of Jamundí, with no victims reported.
Authorities did not immediately identify those allegedly responsible for the attacks.
Jamundí has become a target of attacks in recent weeks. The most recent was a car with explosives that detonated on Friday without causing any victims.
Located in the department of Valle del Cauca, it is a strategic area for illegal armed groups given that it has coca leaf fields – raw material for cocaine – and communicates with the port of Buenaventura and other turbulent municipalities such as Buenos Aires and Suárez. The state Ombudsman’s Office warned in February about the danger to the population due to the presence of armed groups in the region.
In the neighboring department of Cauca, another shooting attack against the Cajibío police was recorded early Wednesday morning, Governor Octavio Guzmán reported on the same social network.
“Thanks to the fact that our public force has been reinforced in number of units and rapid air support was provided, it was possible to contain the actions of these criminal groups,” said the local president.
