The firm’s CEO, Tim Cook, along with Apple’s Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, Craigh Federighi, have explained in depth some of the capabilities of the AI ​​​​he has been working on “for years”, according to the CEO .

Firstly, Cook has insisted that the differentiating point of this technology with respect to the competition is that his is capable of understanding the needs of users and the context that surrounds them, to facilitate the use of their devices and promote their connection. with other people.

In this sense, Federighi has insisted that its new AI ecosystem, Apple Intelligence, can understand the actions between applications, language, as well as create personalized images or emojis with different styles (drawings, animations, etc.), although in No case has mentioned that realistic images can be created like other already known AIs.

The AI ​​also learns from the information it has about users and their context, since it can, for example, know who the members of a family are, where the place where the user is meeting is located and the traffic that there may be. between both points.

In this sense, the senior vice president has insisted that this entire process is carried out privately and processed locally, from the same device, so that this data is only accessible to its owners; something that is possible thanks to Apple Silicon.

It has also created Private Cloud Compute, which allows Apple Intelligence to scale its computing capacity. This means that, if the power of the device is not sufficient, it takes the information processing to a private cloud, sending only the relevant information to execute the desired task. These data, therefore, are not saved or accessible to the brand itself.

It is worth remembering that this coincides with what analyst Mark Gurman advanced a few weeks ago, when he commented that AI services would depend on the task to be executed and that both iOS and iPadOS 18, as well as macOS 15, would have a new algorithm designed to Choose which method to use to execute the task based on its complexity.

AI is also introduced in Mail, Notes, Pages or third-party applications to drive the Rewrite or ‘rewrite’ option. With it, it offers different versions of what has been written in a text to choose the most appropriate one according to the tone in which we want to write an email. The AI ​​also knows how to recognize which emails we receive are most urgent or important and places them first in the inbox with the Priority Messages function.

On the other hand, the firm has commented that Apple Intelligence also seeks to improve the way we communicate with Genmoji, a way to create these emoji directly with generative AI. Meanwhile, with Image Playground you can create images in a matter of seconds and also in three styles (animation, drawing or illustration). In this case, the technology once again understands the personal context of the users, to whom it will offer suggestions for creations related to the conversations recorded on the smartphone.

SIRI IS INTEGRATED INTO THE EXPERIENCE

The company has also advanced news related to its assistant, Siri, launched 13 years ago. According to Apple, this year “marks a new era” for a tool that currently supports 1.5 billion voice requests a day, because it will be responsible for channeling some features that debut with Apple Intelligence.

Thanks to AI, Siri now debuts a new logo and appearance, more integrated with the system experience. Likewise, it allows for more natural communication thanks to its new linguistic and gestural understanding capabilities.

This makes it easy to set alarms with a double tap at the bottom of the screen. Likewise, in case the user forgets the name of an application, he is able to understand which one he wants to open with a description of its service.

Those from Cupertino have also commented that it is now possible to communicate with Siri in writing and switch from text to speech according to user needs without compromising their privacy.

It is also possible to ask you to find specific information when you do not remember how we received it. For example, you may be asked to play a podcast received from another user and find it yourself, without having to access the message or email in which this document or url appears.

You will also be able to “understand and act” on what appears on the screen, so if a contact sends us their address, the user can ask the assistant to save it to their directory with the request “add that address to your contact card.”

CHATGPT COMES TO APPLE

As Gurman also advanced, the American firm has confirmed that the AI ​​assistant developed by OpenAI and powered by GPT 4.0, ChatGPT, will arrive free of charge to users of the brand with different experiences of iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia .

This means that users will not be required to create an account to use this ‘chatbot’, which will be integrated into Apple’s writing tools to help users generate content about what they need to write.

Those who have a subscription account, on the other hand, will be able to link their accounts, in which case the data use policies of the AI ​​tool will apply. This will be possible this year, when ChatGPT is expected to arrive on iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia.
