In a 2024 without E3, companies have maintained the tradition by holding events in June. The non-E3 opened last Friday night with the Summer Game Fest, an event with a multitude of games, but which could have left more than one cold. There was a lot of desire to see what Microsoft was up to in a complicated year, and the truth is that there have been about two hours of content in which we have not stopped watching games.
Below, we review all the games that have been announced during the Xbox Showcase 2024 with a selection of the best trailers.
‘Call of Duty Black Ops 6’
New installment of a franchise that needs no introduction and that will continue the events of ‘Call of Duty Cold War’. ‘Call of Duty Black Ops 6’ will arrive on Xbox Game Pass on day one, although it will be cross-platform and will also be released on PlayStation consoles. It will be launched on October 25.
‘DOOM The Dark Ages’
One of the prequels that we have seen at the event is the new ‘DOOM’. Called ‘The Dark Ages’, it is a prequel to 2026’s ‘DOOM’ and ‘DOOM Eternal’. It is also being developed by id Software and no introduction is needed either: we will be the DOOM Slayer and we will fight a medieval war in hell. If you have played ‘Eternal’, you will know very well what we are going to find in this new installment.
It will arrive on Xbox, Steam and PS5 in 2025 and will be available on Game Pass at launch.
‘Dragon Age Veilguard’
This year the new ‘Dragon Age’ called ‘The Veilguard’ will also arrive. Developed by Bioware, it will put us in the shoes of an adventurer who can count on the help of seven characters, each with their own story that we can find out within the game. According to the company, they will not lose the essence of the saga, so it will be a single-player RPG.
‘Expedition 33’
One of the ‘world premieres’ of this event was ‘Expedition 33’. It will arrive on Xbox Series X and Series S in 2025, it is being developed with the Unreal Engine 5 and visually it promises a lot. Playably, it looks like an RPG with a traditional turn-based touch and is the first game from the Sandfall studio. It look very nice.
‘South of Midnight’
Another novelty in gameplay (because we already saw its presentation trailer last year) is ‘South of Midnight’ from Compulsion Games, a studio owned by Microsoft. It will arrive in 2025 on Xbox Series X, Series S and PC and will be a third-person action adventure with a lot of adventure and a very, very interesting aesthetic section.
‘Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater’
One of the heavyweights of the event has been ‘Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater’. It is the remake of the classic ‘Metal Gear Solid 3’ from 2004 and, apart from a revamped visual section, it will have a new updated control system. Of course, for lovers of the original, we can select the control scheme of that one.
‘Age of Empires Mythology Retold’
The remaster of ‘Age of Mythology’ will arrive on Xbox and PC on September 4. The graphics have improved greatly compared to the original and fans of this saga can rest assured taking into account the great work that Microsoft is doing with the franchise lately.
‘Perfect Dark’
19 years have passed since the last ‘Perfect Dark’ and Joanna Dark is back in the first The Initiative game developed with Crystal Dynamics. With a lot of action and the touch of the ‘toys’ of spy movies, there is a desire to see the final result of this game that was announced three years ago and of which we had not seen anything since then.
Now, we still don’t know when it will come out.
‘Fable’
And another one that I wanted to see is the new ‘Fable’. Finally, after a long time in the shadows, we have been able to see an in-game video of the title being developed by Playground Games (the parents of ‘Forza Horizon’, yes). It will arrive in 2025 and we will return to the kingdom of Albion.
‘Indiana Jones and the Great Circle’
Xbox has given five minutes to the new Indiana Jones game. Called ‘The Great Circle’, it is set between ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’ and ‘The Last Crusade’. It will have a story that will be canon in the franchise and the gameplay will be in first person. We can rest assured in this sense, since those responsible are the same ones who have been in charge of revitalizing the ‘Wolfenstein’ franchise.
‘Avowed’
Microsoft currently has on its payroll both Bethesda – parents of ‘The Elder Scrolls’ – and Obsidian – one of the most influential and important studios in Western RPGs. Obsidian has been developing ‘Avowed’ for years, a role-playing adventure that we had seen very little of until now and that looks spectacular for all lovers of games like ‘Skyrim’. It will arrive in 2024 and, like the rest of Microsoft Studios’ games, will be available from day one on Game Pass.
‘Assassin’s Creed Shadows’
Ubisoft has not waited until tomorrow to show the first gameplay of the new ‘Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ and, after the presentation a few days ago with a CGI trailer, we can finally see the new installment of the saga in action with a couple of minutes of gameplay. It will be released on November 15 this year.
‘STALKER 2’
On September 5, ‘STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl’ will arrive on Xbox and PC, and day one on Game Pass. Many years have passed since the original game and we will return to the contaminated area in an open world game with a non-linear story and spectacular visuals.
‘Gears of War: E-Day’
One of the quintessential Xbox franchises is back, but not with ‘Gears 6’ as many of us expected to close The Coalition trilogy, but with a ‘Gears of War: E-Day’ that will tell the events experienced by Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago during Emergency Day. It will be a prequel set 14 years before the original 2006 game and built with the Unreal Engine 5.
Other games featured
Those are the juiciest trailers, either because of their spectacular nature or because of the striking nature of the franchise, but there have been many more at the event. We leave them below:
