ECLAC/ILPES participated in various activities within the framework of the International Open Government Week

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), through the Latin American and Caribbean Institute for Economic and Social Planning (ILPES), participated in various events held within the framework of the International Government Weekwhich was held from May 27 to 31, 2024.

On Monday, May 27, ILPES/ECLAC participated in the inauguration of Open Government Week in Tegucigalpa, within the framework of a process of technical assistance to the Secretariat of Transparency and Fight against Corruption of Honduras for the implementation of open government in said country. On the occasion, the specialist Alejandra Naser gave a masterful talk on the open State.

On Tuesday, May 28, meanwhile, together with the Hemisferios University of Ecuador, the discussion “Opportunities for open government to address environmental and climate challenges: regional experiences” was held. The event aimed to share experiences that have allowed progress in the environmental and climate agenda of Latin America and the Caribbean from the open State approach. On the occasion, ECLAC addressed the regional panorama of the open State and digital government as accelerators of climate action.

On Wednesday, May 29, the head of the Public Management and Open Government Area of ​​ILPES/ECLAC, Valeria Torres, participated in the webinar “Was the promise of open government fulfilled? A debate in Spain and Latin America”, in which she reflected on the progress, achievements and challenges that the open government agenda has posed in Ibero-America.

In turn, on Thursday, May 30, the Chilean Open State Fair was held in the Plaza de la Constitución in Santiago, located next to the Palacio de la Moneda, headquarters of the Chilean Government. In this activity, ECLAC participated by installing a stand with publications together with various public institutions in the country that are part of the implementing team of the Sixth National Open State Action Plan.

Finally, on Friday, May 31, a local open government Forum was held in which different municipalities in Chile participated and shared their innovative experiences of participation, transparency and accountability. For this event, ECLAC gave an introductory talk on local open government.
