June 7 () –
This Friday, the ‘Geo Barents’ ship of Doctors Without Borders (MSF) recovered the lifeless bodies of eleven people in the waters of the central Mediterranean after a day in which it rescued 165 migrants.
After carrying out two rescues early on Friday, the ‘Geo Barents’ received an alert from the NGO Sea-Watch in the afternoon, warning that they had sighted the bodies of several people adrift floating in the sea.
When the Doctors Without Borders ship arrived at the indicated site, the NGO began a search operation to locate the bodies. Shortly after, a boat was seen from the bridge of the ship with twenty people on board who managed to be rescued.
“Unfortunately, after a search operation that lasted more than nine hours, the ‘Geo Barents’ recovered the lifeless bodies of 11 people,” MSF explained in a message published on social networks, in which it also detailed that the ship It now sails to Genoa, the port assigned to it by the Italian authorities, “more than 650 nautical miles away.”
“There are a total of 165 survivors and 11 dead people on board,” the NGO lamented, later denouncing that Europe “has to stop looking the other way once and for all.” “Once again, the EU’s bloody migration policies and lack of rescue operations translate into loss of human life,” she said.
