The French National Assembly has given the ‘green light’ to a bill on foreign interference promoted by the Renaissance party amid speculation that Russia could be carrying out destabilization actions in France.
The law – promoted by deputies Thomas Gassilloud, Sacha Houlié and Constance Le Grip – has been approved in the National Assembly with 138 votes in favor and 10 against, of La Francia Insumisa (LFI) and the New Ecological Popular Union and Social (Nupes).
The initiative obliges the Government to present a report to Parliament on threats to national security and also creates a registry of actors that represent the interests of foreign powers. In addition, it allows the creation of a procedure for the freezing of financial assets and mechanisms to monitor the algorithms, as explained by Houlié on the X social network.
This comes after several incidents have occurred in France in recent weeks, such as the appearance of handprints with red paint at the Shoah Memorial in Paris, or the five coffins wrapped in the French flag that were left at the foot of the Eiffel Tower.
A report from the Department of Local Security of the Paris Metropolitan Area (DSPAP) obtained by the newspaper ‘Le Monde’ pointed out that these two actions would be related and pointed to a possible destabilization plan by Russia, although the Intelligence services They have not commented on the matter.
