The Higher Institute of Japanese Studies this year begins to offer a series of virtual courses open to the entire community.
In June and July, professor Valeria Rissotto Britos will teach the course “An introduction to the history of manga: from the Kanagawa Wave to mass culture.” Classes start this Friday 7/06! This is a course for people over 18 years of age taught synchronously by Zoom. Some of the topics she will address are the development of manga in relation to different artistic expressions and the evolution of different subgenres (shōjo, shōnen, seinen, etc.). The formal features characteristic of manga and its language will also be worked on.
Other contents that will be worked on:
- Theoretical definitions and common use of manga in Japan and Argentina
- Discussions on the ancestors of manga: own developments in other arts and Western borrowings.
- Themes and segmentation: history and great works.
- Rhetorical or formal characteristics of manga.
The course will be taught on Fridays, June 7, 14, 28 and July 5 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. (ARG) through the Zoom platform. Classes are synchronous and you will be able to access recorded material throughout the course.
All participants will have a certification at the end of the course.
