The police officer attacked on Friday in Mannheim, Germany, dies

June 2 () –

The 29-year-old police officer attacked with a knife on Friday in Mannheim, Germany, died this Sunday due to the severity of his injuries.

The Karlsruhe Prosecutor’s Office has reported the death of the agent, who underwent emergency surgery and was in an induced coma since then, until he finally died on Sunday afternoon, according to German public television ARD.

The attack occurred in Mannheim’s market square at the hands of an individual who stabbed the police officer several times. The aggressor is a 25-year-old man of Afghan origin who arrived in the country ten years ago and was shot during the incident, so he has not yet been able to be questioned. He is married, has two children and lives in Heppenheim, Hesse.

Six men were injured in the attack, including the now deceased agent, within the framework of an event by the anti-Islamist movement Pax Europa.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has expressed his regret for the death of the “brave” police officer as a result of the “terrible” attack in Mannheim. “His commitment to our safety deserves the highest recognition. In these bitter hours I think of his family and all those who mourn him,” he stated in a message published on the social network X.

The German Police Union has condemned the “brutal and inhumane” attack on the officer, in the words of regional spokesman Ralf Kusterer.
