Nvidia presents a standard for GeForce cards that makes it easier to install on SSF computers

Small form factor computers, better known by their acronym SFF, are a niche market, but in recent years gamers’ interest in these small-sized cases has grown. So much so that Nvidia has presented a standard at Computex 2024 to make it easier for GeForce graphics card manufacturers and case manufacturers to go together and make life easier for gamers who want to build an SSF team.

GeForce manufacturers always indicate the dimensions of their graphics in the specifications sheet, but when it comes to installing a graphics card in an SSF you have to know the space available for parts, cables and components almost to the millimeter. Until now, interested parties had to guess and do research, a situation that should be put to rest by the SFF-Ready standard, which will indicate whether a graphics card fits in an SFF case.

“We are working collaboratively with graphics card and case manufacturers to simplify component choice by introducing a new SFF-Ready guideline for GeForce RTX enthusiast graphics cards and cases,” explains Nvidia. Manufacturers’ product pages will soon be updated, labeling graphics cards that meet the standard as SFF-Ready Enthusiast GeForce Cards and SFF-Ready Enthusiast GeForce Card Compatible cases.

GeForce RTX SFF-Ready have a maximum height of 151 mm, including power cable bend radius, maximum length of 304 mm, and maximum depth of 50 mm or 2.5 slots. “These limits ensure that there is the necessary space, distance, and workspace within SFF-Ready enclosures,” Nvidia says. As of today, there are 36 GeForce RTX 40 series graphics cards that comply with Nvidia’s SFF-Ready standard. During Computex 2024, which will open its doors from June 4 to 7, more graphics cards from manufacturers such as Asus, Galax, Gigabyte, Inno3D, MSI, Palit, PNY and Zoltac will be presented.

On the other hand we have the cases, which to be SFF-Ready must have enough space to accept any card of this type and the manufacturer’s power connector, in addition to the rest of the necessary components of a PC. “Depending on the orientation of the graphics card, a total clearance of 154.5 mm is required from the motherboard or vertical PCB to the side or top panel of the case,” explains Nvidia. Additionally, the case must have clearance for 312mm of length, including the graphics card and extender (if applicable).”

Today there are many small form factor cases compatible with GeForce SSF-Ready cards. Starting today, these cases will have the GeForce Card Compatible designation for SFF-Ready enthusiasts. Among the manufacturers participating in this initiative we have Asus, Cooler Master, Fractal Design, MSI, Phanteks, NZXT and Thermaltake.
