Siri landed on the iPhone more than a decade ago with the promise of helping us “do things just by asking”. We would just have to talk to him naturally and wait for the magic to happen. Time has passed and this smart assistant is still present on Apple’s smartphone, but we usually use it to program timers and little else.

The race for the development of artificial intelligence (AI), and all the advances that have come with it, is presented as the ideal moment for this piece of iOS to materialize the most important leap in its history. A completely renewed assistant

As we know, Apple does not usually give clues about future releases, but this does not prevent analysts from drawing their own conclusions. Currently, Siri allows us to add events to the calendar, create reminders, start calls or set a timer. When using it, we must take a moment to organize our request into a sentence that the assistant understands. Many times, if we change the order of words or don’t speak clearly enough, Siri simply can’t help us.

It is expected that a renewed version of the assistant will leave this limitation behind. Siri will be able to understand us better and will become a key tool for control the iPhone and its applications (also from third parties). We can, for example, ask through our voice to move a note from one folder to another, request the summary of an article or send a web link by email.

But we will also see more advanced functions. Thanks to a renewal of other pieces that are part of iOS, Siri will help us summarize meetings and send them by message. The assistant might even be able to crop an image and email it to a specific contact. We are talking about news for the iPhone or iPad. There is no mention of macOS.

When will the new Siri arrive on the iPhone?

The renewal of Siri has not been an easy task. According to sources, Apple has boosted the underlying technology of the assistant with large language models. As we say, we should know the company’s latest artificial intelligence news at WWDC 2024, which will be held on June 10 from 7:00 p.m. (Spanish peninsular time) and which we will cover on Xataka.

During the event we should learn about iOS 18, the version of the iPhone operating system that will open the doors to generative AI and a ton of new features.
