May 30. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) expressed its willingness this Thursday to close a “complete” agreement with Israel that includes an exchange of hostages for Palestinian prisoners only if the Israeli Army ceases its offensive on the Gaza Strip.

“We have shown flexibility and positivity with the efforts of the mediators in other previous rounds of negotiations, which led to the announcement that we accepted the May 6 proposal,” the militia said in a statement collected by ‘Filastin’.

In this sense, Hamas recalled that Israel “responded” to its announcement “by invading the city of Rafah and occupying the crossing.” The group has reiterated that Palestinian factions will not agree to be part of negotiations led by Egypt and Qatar to continue their aggression against the Palestinian enclave.

This comes after the Government of Qatar “strongly” condemned on Wednesday the attacks carried out by Israel against camps for displaced people in Rafah and stressed that these bombings “subvert” the process of indirect negotiations with Hamas for a ceasefire in Loop.

Israel launched its offensive against Rafah on May 6, shortly after rejecting a ceasefire proposal presented by Egypt and Qatar that had been backed by Hamas, which led to the suspension of humanitarian operations through the border crossing.

Tensions have been on the rise since then due to the intensification of the Israeli offensive despite international calls and an order from the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to stop its attacks.
