Manzana has not been a company foreign to video games, it even had a failed console, the Pippinbut His greatest success has been as the owner of a platform, the App Store. The company’s attempts in gaming show different projects that did not come true and one of them is related to a clone of Tetris that could have accompanied the successful iPod in the distant 2003.
The third generation iPod could have had a clone of Tetris
A report of Time-Extension shared details of discovery published on YouTube channel Apple Demo, an enthusiast of the history of the North American brand, who tells of a gaming project that was part of the iPod proposal in its beginnings. According to the video, it is a prototype of the iPod in its third generation planned to be launched in 2003, which included a clone of Tetris called Stacker because it did not have the license for the successful puzzle of Soviet origin.
Although the original intention was to include this game on the iPod model, this did not become a reality and remained as part of the previous project, so the official launch did not take place. Stacker to his credit, but the existence of the game in the prototype firmware became an object of worship among enthusiasts and collectors. Years later, iPod was officially licensed Tetris.
This was not the first time that Apple tried to bring back gaming in terms of licensing; years earlier, in 1999, Steve Jobs shook Sony by presenting the Virtual Game Station, a PlayStation emulator that ran on the iMac and was considered as part of the entertainment proposal of its new line of computers. Sony later sued Connectix, the company responsible for the emulator, and it was no longer included in Apple products.
