A reddit user contacted Valve customer support for more information on this issue. “This is a quick question to satisfy a doubt I have in the back of my mind. I don’t plan to die anytime soon, but, when I do, will I be able to transfer ownership of my Steam account through a will,” she questioned.

The response the player got from a Steam technical support representative is disappointing, although it was what was expected. Specific, Valve confirmed that it is impossible to pass ownership of an account and games to another person, even in the event of death.

“Unfortunately, Steam accounts and games are non-transferable. Steam Support cannot provide another person with access to your account or merge your content with another person. I regret to inform you that your profile cannot be transferred by will,” the response reads.

Thus, accounts on the Valve platform die along with their owner. The only alternative is to share the login details (email, passwords and Username) to the person we want to “inherit” the games in case we lose our lives; However, this measure violates the regulations.

“You may not disclose, share, or allow others to use your password or account unless specifically authorized by Valve. You are responsible for the confidentiality of your username, password and the security of your computer system,” the statement reads. Section C of Article 1.

As expected, users are not happy with this situation and would like to have alternatives to transfer their accounts and games. Certainly, there are still many unanswered questions when it comes to digital property rights in Mexico and other countries.
