The Russian president, Vladimir Putin, signed an agreement this Monday with his Uzbek counterpart, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, for the construction of a low-power nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan within the framework of his official trip to the neighboring country.
“This project is vital for us,” Mirziyoyev stressed, adding that Putin’s state visit is “historic” and “marks the beginning of a new milestone in the strategic alliance” between both countries, according to the news agency. TASS.
The general director of the Russian state energy company Rosatom, Alexei Lijachev, has specified that the construction of the plant, which will have six reactors and will be in the Yizakh region, located in the center of the country, will begin in summer.
Both countries have committed to strengthening cooperation on different fronts, mainly in the defense sector, while they have also agreed to increase the supply of gas and oil in order to prevent electricity outages.
