ASEAN Secretariat officials participated this week in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum Trade Ministers’ Meeting (APEC) in Arequipa, Peru.
Previously, ASEAN Secretariat officials also participated in the Joint Meeting of Ministers Responsible for Trade and Ministers for Women, as well as the 2nd APEC Senior Officials Meeting, held last week.

As one of the three official observers of APEC, the ASEAN Secretariat provided regular updates on the regional economic outlook, the implementation of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) Plan 2025, as well as ongoing efforts to develop the Vision 2045 of the ASEAN Community and its Strategic Plans.
In addition, ASEAN’s key initiatives on digitalization, sustainability and increasing women’s participation in regional and global trade were also highlighted during these meetings.

As host of APEC this year, Peru’s priorities will address the overarching theme of “Empower, Include, Grow” – promoting trade and investment for inclusive and interconnected growth, innovation and digitalization to promote the transition to the formal economy. and global, as well as sustainable growth for resilient development.
The Republic of Peru received ASEAN Development Partner status during the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Retreat in January this year in Luang Prabang, Lao PDR.
