The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has assured that the Russian offensive in Kharkiv has caused eight times more casualties in the Russian ranks than in the Ukrainian ones.

“About the offensive in Kharkiv. How long has it been, two weeks? The victims are 1 to 8. One Ukrainian, eight Russians. Military victims,” ​​Zelensky said in an interview with Central Asian journalists collected by the Ukrainian news agency UNIAN. .

The Ukrainian president has thus estimated the number of Russian soldiers killed on the front per week at between 2,000 and 3,000, which would have provoked the “anger” of the Russian president, Vladimir Putin.

Zelensky has also referred to the possibility of agreeing on a ceasefire to reduce Ukrainian casualties and has argued that it would be “nonsense” because Russia systematically violates this type of agreement, as happened between 2014 and 2022 in the Donbas region.

“They have entered the Kharkiv region up to ten kilometers (…). If there was a ceasefire they could bring in heavy material that they cannot now because of our artillery. How could we stop them then?” he argued.

It would only make sense, he pointed out, if the ceasefire line were the official border.
