Chinese official media have reported the opening of an anti-corruption investigation against a deputy head of the State Tobacco Monopoly Administration, in the second scrutiny of this type against a senior official in as many weeks.
Xu Ying being investigated by the anti-corruption agency for “serious violations” of the law, according to a brief statement collected by China Central Television.
The officer, the note adds, is “currently under disciplinary review and supervisory investigation.”
It should be remembered that, exactly a week ago, China’s anti-corruption agency announced the beginning of an investigation against the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Tang Renjian, for “serious violation of the law.”
Chinese President Xi Jinping has for years led a broad anti-corruption campaign to discipline the ruling Communist Party. In recent weeks, more than 30 announcements have been made about new investigations by the anti-corruption agency.
