SM Markets to add 10-15 stores outside NCR in 2024

The group YEthrough SM Markets, plans to open 10 to 15 new stores this year to provide provincial regions with better access to a modern grocery shopping experience, addressing the essential needs of Filipino communities in underserved areas.

With these new stores, SM Markets will have more than 350 establishments throughout the country this year, of which more than 70% are located outside the National Capital Region (NCR).

This regional expansion is in line with SM Markets’ commitment to reach more customers by bringing quality, affordable products and exceptional service to more Filipino households. The new grocery stores will offer more choice to local communities and at the same time support local micro and SMEs by giving them the opportunity to display their products on shelves and at weekend markets.

SM Markets, the umbrella brand of SM Supermarket, SM Hypermarket and Savemore Market, plans to open four stores in the first half of the year in Mati (Davao Oriental), Marilao (Bulacan) and Naujan (Mindoro). In the first half, Savemore Siniloan (Laguna), Savemore Pantukan (Davao de Oro), Savemore Hotel Supreme (Baguio) and SM Supermarket Caloocan were opened.

To date, SM Markets has 66 supermarkets, 54 hypermarkets and 223 Savemore stores. This continues the expansion of SM Markets’ geographic reach since 2023, when it opened 12 stores in various areas of the country, including Iloilo, Bataan, Leyte and General Santos. Among these new additions are two SM Cherry branches in Aklan and Rizal, further consolidating SM Markets’ presence in key areas.

SM Markets’ three brands (SM Supermarket, SM Hypermarket, and Savemore) cater to the diverse needs of Filipinos. SM Supermarket offers a wide range of food in SM shopping malls, while SM Hypermarket combines the convenience of a supermarket and a department store. Savemore, for its part, offers basic products for all budgets and is easily accessible throughout the country.

Since the first SM Supermarket opened its doors in SM Makati in 1985, SM Markets have constantly evolved to meet customer demands, even bringing the same shopping experience closer to their homes.
