The NY Stock Exchange ended yesterday in negative territory, and the Dow Jones, its main indicator, cfell 1.53%, to 39,065 pointsin its worst day of 2024, since the excellent results of the American chip manufacturer Nvidia failed to lift the market.

At the end of the session on the NY Stock Exchange, the S&P 500 lost 0.74%, to 5,267 points, and the Nasdaq another 0.4%, to 16,736 points. During yesterday’s session, Nvidia rose 9.3%, placing its shares above $1,000. In addition, this technology company announced yesterday that it earned US$14,881 million in its first fiscal quarter of 2025, seven times more than in the same period last year, thanks to the ‘boom’ of artificial intelligence (AI).

On the other hand, uncertainty continues with monetary policy to stop inflation, and the probability that The Federal Reserve (Fed) cuts rates at its September meeting by 51%up from 58% a day ago and nearly 68% the week before, according to CME’s FedWatch tool.

Regarding the sectors, losses predominated this Thursday with falls in all sectors, except for technology (0.6%). Those that fell the most were real estate (-2.2%), public services (-1.7%) and non-essential goods (-1.5%).

Among the 30 Dow companies, all closed with losses, mainly highlighting those of Boeing (-7.5%), Intel (-4.2%) and McDonald’s (-2.9%). In other markets, oil ended lower, down to $76.87 per barrel, gold fell to $2,330 per ounce and the euro was trading at $1.0814.
