The speaker of the US House of Representatives announces that Netanyahu will speak before Congress "soon"

May 24. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of the United States House of Representatives, Republican Mike Johnson, announced this Thursday that the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, will speak before Congress “soon”, without speculating on possible dates.

“Tonight I am pleased to announce something else: that we will soon receive Prime Minister Netanyahu on Capitol Hill for a joint session of Congress,” Johnson said at the Israeli Embassy in Washington at an event marking the creation of the Israeli State, according to The NBC News television network has published.

Johnson has justified this invitation to the Israeli president as a “timely” and “very strong show of support” for the Netanyahu Government “in its moment of greatest need,” and that the international community is increasingly critical of Israel for its actions. in the Gaza Strip, where more than 35,800 Palestinians have already died due to the offensive.

The Republican legislator assured this week that he would only make this request to Netanyahu if the leader of the Democratic majority in the United States Senate, Chuck Schumer, agreed to sign a joint invitation.

It should be noted that Schumer, considered the Jew with the highest political position in the North American country, demanded in March the holding of early elections in Israel, alleging that this State “cannot survive if it becomes a pariah” on the international scene.

This invitation comes shortly after the announcements by Spain, Norway and Ireland about the recognition of the State of Palestine. In addition, Malta and Slovenia have also stated that they could take this step soon. In the last month, Barbados, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago and the Bahamas had taken the same step.
