The transitional president of Chad, Mahamat Idriss Déby, appointed this Thursday by decree Allamaye Halina, former Chadian ambassador to China, as the new transitional prime minister, replacing Succès Masra.

“The President of the Republic, head of State, by virtue of the Constitution and given the need for service, decrees that Mr. Allamaye Halina be appointed Prime Minister, Head of Government,” indicated the Secretary General of the Presidency, Mahamat Ahmat Alhabo. , as reported by the Chad Infos news portal.

Halina was appointed Chadian ambassador to China on January 31, 2023 and was director general of protocol of the Presidency of Chad for 13 years, a position for which he received a decoration in March 2023 from the transitional president.

Masra announced his resignation as prime minister the day before about two weeks after the current president’s victory in the presidential elections of May 6, 2024, results against which he filed an appeal denouncing irregularities.

Last week, the Constitutional Court of Chad endorsed Déby’s victory – thus rejecting Masra’s request – in the elections, in which the president managed to obtain 61 percent of the votes against the prime minister, who obtained 18 .54 percent of the ballots.

Déby took power with the backing of the military after the death in 2021 of his father, former president Idriss Déby, victim of an attack committed by the rebel group Front for Alternation and Concord in Chad (FACT) during a visit to the front line.
