CHINA – TAIWAN
China has launched a military exercise on a large scale around Taiwan, three days after the inauguration of new President Lai Ching-te in Taipei. A decision seen by Beijing as a “punishment” to the island considered rebellious. The Taiwan Strait, northern, southern and eastern Taiwan are affected. In response, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Taipei calls on China to “be rational” and that it “will not change due to pressure from neighboring countries.”

BANGLADESH – INDIA
A member of Bangladesh’s ruling party was found murdered yesterday morning in Calcutta, more than a week after he disappeared. According to the Ministry of Interior in Dhaka, Anwarul Azim Anar, 56, had disappeared on May 13, a day after arriving in India for medical treatment. Three Bangladeshi nationals were arrested in connection with the death.
