“The occupation forces have opened fire directly against the Al Jazeera team while covering the events in Jenin,” the network has published, at the same time that it has reported on a “siege” against the hotel where these journalists are staying.

In fact, he assured that one of the accommodation workers has been injured as a result of the shots, and that Israeli troops “are sending military reinforcements to the place.”

For its part, the Palestinian news agency WAFA has confirmed both the shots fired at teams of journalists in the city and the wounded in the hotel and even the reinforcements.

Furthermore, he has asserted that the Israeli military has destroyed a hotel room using a bulldozer, and that they have detained a person “whose identity is unknown.”

Jenin has been the epicenter of Israel’s military operations for months, including one carried out in July 2023 that was the largest in the West Bank since the Second Intifada (2000-2005). Numerous armed groups are present in the city and its refugee camp, including Hamas, Islamic Jihad and the armed wing of Fatah.

The operation is part of the rise in violence since 2023, which has worsened after the attacks carried out on October 7 by Hamas and other Palestinian militias, which left around 1,200 dead and around 240 kidnapped. Since then, the Gaza authorities, controlled by the Islamist group, have reported more than 35,700 deaths due to the Israeli offensive, in addition to more than 515 Palestinian deaths in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
