Russia reminds the US of its "parade of illegitimate recognitions" after its reluctance to recognize the Palestinian State

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Maria Zajarova, has reminded the United States of its “parade of illegitimate recognitions” after Washington has shown its suspicion of the recognition of the Palestinian State by several European countries, including Spain.

After Spain, Ireland and Norway recognized the State of Palestine this Wednesday, the White House recalled that President Joe Biden is “a firm supporter of a two-state solution” but based on “direct negotiations between the parties” and not “unilaterally.”

After this, Zajarova has questioned the United States about the reason for its recognition of Kosovo and when the “direct bilateral negotiations between the parties” took place. “Of course she won’t remember it,” said the spokesperson for Russian diplomacy on her official Telegram channel.

As Zajarova stressed, at that time there were no negotiations between Serbia and Kosovo, but there was “a parade of illegitimate unilateral recognitions of supposed independence” led by President George W. Bush (2001-2009) and later by Barack Obama (2009-2017).

The announcements by Spain, Norway and Ireland bring to 146 the number of United Nations member states that recognize the State of Palestine. Malta and Slovenia have also stated that they could take this step soon. For its part, France believes that “the conditions” conducive to this do not exist.
